A Beautiful Brunchtime Beverage
Nowadays, when people order a tequila sunrise, they expect plenty of sweet orange juice. However, did you know that the original version of this drink didn’t contain OJ?
It’s true! An authentic tequila sunrise calls for a blackcurrant liqueur called crème de cassis. This original cocktail recipe also contains a hint of lime juice and Club soda.
Since the newer OJ tequila sunrise has become the standard, we’ve decided to use this recipe’s specs below. However, if you don’t mind hunting down some crème de cassis, we’d recommend trying the authentic tequila sunrise and telling us what you think on social media.
And don’t worry; our citrus-flavored CBD oil goes great with both of these recipes!
CBD Tequila Sunrise Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ½ oz blanco tequila
- ~ 4 oz orange juice
- ¼ oz grenadine
- 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
- Orange wheel
- Luxardo cherry
Directions
- Pour tequila, orange juice, and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
- Shake for a few seconds
- Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass
- Slowly pour grenadine on top to create a “sunrise effect”
- Garnish with an orange wheel and cherry
Now that you’ve mastered the tequila sunrise, you may be wondering whether you could create a “sunset effect.” While it’s possible to make this mix, it’s not as simple as pouring your grenadine over the back of a barspoon. Since grenadine is relatively heavy, it will naturally fall to the bottom of your drink. However, there are a few interesting ways bartenders achieve the “sunset look.”
Most commonly, bartenders use blackberry brandy rather than grenadine in tequila sunsets. Alternatively, you could try pouring a bit of dark rum over a barspoon after you’ve mixed your OJ and tequila.
