The Adonis cocktail doesn’t go back as far as Ancient Greece, but it’s pretty old. Supposedly invented in NYC in the late 1800s, this orange-tinged drink is excellent for folks who want a no-fuss cocktail with a low ABV. Whether you mix it for brunch or before watching a show, this Adonis recipe should put you in a good mood without losing control.

Greek myths can get pretty messed up. For instance, did you know Adonis was the product of an incestuous relationship?
Although versions of the Adonis story vary, most believe his parents were the Syrian King Theias and his daughter Myrrha. In punishment for this act, most legends claim Myrrha turned into a tree, which we now know as the myrrh tree.
Shortly after Adonis was born, he charmed two Greek goddesses. Aphrodite and Persephone were in a heated competition to attract the young man to their boudoir. However, considering Aphrodite is the “goddess of love,” we don’t really think that’s a fair fight!
Although there are multiple versions of Adonis’ birth and death, all end in tragedy. While Adonis was hunting one bright Athenian day, a wild boar attacked him. Whether this was a pure accident or an attack sent from above depends on who’s telling the story.
By the way, if you’re into gardening, you should know that Adonis is associated with the anemone flower. Supposedly, Aphrodite created the anemone flowers with the blood of her dead lover.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ oz dry sherry
- 1 ½ oz sweet vermouth
- Dash of orange bitters
- 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
- Orange peel, garnish
Directions
- Pour dry sherry, orange bitters, and sweet vermouth in a stirring glass.
- Add ice and stir until well chilled.
- Strain into a pre-chilled martini glass.
