Here’s a simple way to add class to just about anything: say it came from France! Although the gimlet is pretty classy on its own, using the word “French” always adds some sophistication. Plus, the ingredient that makes this drink “French” is so fun to say: St. Germain!

The next time you want to add some “Parisian panache” to a classic cocktail soirée, be sure to try Tribe’s French gimlet. Plus, since this is a Tribe recipe, you know we had to add a little Tribe CBD oil to the mix!

By now, you’re probably wondering what the heck St. Germain is. Interestingly, this herbal liqueur is a relatively recent drink out of France. Despite its centuries-old name, distillers didn’t start bottling St. Germain till 2007.

The key botanical that gives St. Germain its edge is elderflower. According to the company, distillers use thousands of elderflower blossoms in every bottle of St. Germain. Obviously, this gives St. Germain a “floral” flavor that could easily work in many drinks.

Most customers who purchase St. Germain have no issues using it in various cocktail recipes. While St. Germain plays well against gin’s natural botanicals, it’s also easy to mix with other spirits, Champagne, or white wine. Once you try St. Germain for the first time, you’ll see how easy it is to add this ingredient to your drinking routine.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 ½ oz St. Germain
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • Lime wedge

Directions

  • Pour gin, St. Germain, lime juice, and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled cocktail glass
  • Garnish with a lime wedge

If you’ve been paying close attention to our blog, you may have noticed we left out a standard ingredient in the gimlet: simple syrup. While you could add this sweetener back into the French gimlet, most people find it’s sweet enough with St. Germain. Also, adding more sugar to this drink may swamp St. Germain’s distinctive flavors. If you want to taste St. Germain, you should first try this drink without the extra sugar.

You may also want to experiment with alternative sweeteners to give your French gimlet a unique flavor profile. For instance, we’d recommend trying about ½ oz of runny honey if you have some on hand.

In case you didn’t know, “runny honey” refers to diluted honey. Bartenders use this rather than raw honey because it’s easier to pour into cold drinks. You could find out how to make a batch of your own “runny honey” in this previous blog post.
